The Process

How Our Owner Surrender Process Works

Reaching out is the first step — and often the hardest one. When you contact us about rehoming your dog in Los Angeles, a member of our team will respond with warmth and without judgment. We'll ask you to share some basic information about your dog: their age, breed, temperament, medical history, and the circumstances that have led you to consider rehoming.

Once we've reviewed your inquiry, we'll be honest with you about our current placement capacity. If we can help, we'll walk you through the next steps together — including health screening, documentation, and transition planning. If our capacity is temporarily full, we'll do our best to connect you with other trusted resources in the Los Angeles area so your dog's wellbeing is never left to chance.

Throughout this process, our goal is the same as yours: the best possible outcome for a dog who deserves a loving future.

You are doing the right thing

Asking for help is love.

Choosing to rehome your dog responsibly takes courage. We honor that choice — and we're here to make the path forward feel a little less alone.

Step by Step

What to Expect When You Reach Out

We believe in transparency every step of the way. Here's how the process unfolds from your first message to your dog's next chapter.

01

Step 1: Submit Your Inquiry

Fill out the intake form below with your dog's name, age, breed, and a brief description of your situation. There's no wrong reason to reach out — life circumstances change, and we're here to help you navigate them responsibly.

02

Step 2: We Review & Respond

A member of our team will review your submission and follow up within a few business days. We'll ask follow-up questions about your dog's health, behavior, and history to ensure we can provide the right level of care and match them with the right adopter.

03

Step 3: Intake Scheduling

If we have capacity and your dog is a good fit, we'll schedule a time to coordinate the intake process. We'll confirm what paperwork and medical records to bring or share, and we'll answer any remaining questions you have before the transition day arrives.

04

Step 4: Finding the Right Home

Every dog surrendered to Perfect Pet Rescue is carefully matched with a vetted, loving adoptive family. We take temperament, lifestyle, and history seriously — because finding the right home matters as much as finding a home at all.

05

Step 5: Owner Communication

We know it's hard to say goodbye. We'll keep communication open during the transition and let you know when your dog has been placed in a new home, giving you the peace of mind that they are safe, loved, and thriving.

06

Step 6: A New Beginning

Your dog's story doesn't end here — it begins a new chapter. Thanks to your courage in reaching out, they'll have the chance at a happy, healthy life with a family who will cherish them. That decision takes love, and we honor it.

Important Intake Information

Perfect Pet Rescue is a small, community-supported nonprofit based in Beverly Hills, and our intake capacity is limited at any given time. We are only able to accept dogs when we have confirmed foster or placement availability — and we cannot guarantee immediate intake for every inquiry we receive.

We accept dogs primarily from the Los Angeles County area, including Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Culver City, and surrounding communities. We are not able to accept dogs with a history of serious aggression or dogs requiring extensive medical care we are not equipped to manage.

If you are in an urgent or emergency situation and cannot wait, please also contact your local Los Angeles County animal services facility or another reputable rescue organization while we review your inquiry. We will always be honest with you about our timeline. Please do not abandon your dog — there is always a responsible path forward, and we will help you find it.
